In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products

conventions

Conventions in an opening sequence is mainly what we expect to see in the opening sequence.
I think our media product met the conventions in some context.
In terms of establishing the location in our opening sequence i dont think we conveyed this, we was told this by our feedback from other groups as they could not understand why we had added in shots of London.
Structure of sequence- i think our sequence was good, compared to other groups i would say it was not the best, yet it had a nice flow and easy to follow. The structure of our sequence could be noted as good or bad. Shots were scattered around, we had highlights of London, which was not in order. Some film's are structured like this such as Adulthood, which is what gave us ideas for our opening sequence.
style/colour of font- Our font differs from font types which are related to our genre. I would relate our font to a sci-fi film, and it has a square shape to it. In terms of the style of font, i think our media product breaks away from normal representations of media films. The colour of the font is white, which is placed over a black background and fades into the picture.
Genre- The genre of the film was gangster/crime. I think we could have interacted some scenes more to do with crime. which could have been replaced with the London shot's.
Narrative enigma- The narrative enigma is the unanswered question at the end of the opening sequence which makes the audience "gasp" and makes them want to carry on watching the film. I think some students related to our narrative enigma and wanted to watch on whilst others did not.
introduction of characters- usually in a opening sequence the characters should be established, especially the main ones. I think as we had numerous amounts of characters in the opening sequence, which could lead to the audience finding it hard to establish the atchual main character. As this is a crime drama, it should have a number of characters in the opening sequence but ours could have been more clear.
Camera- our camera work could have been improves as some shots were not accurate, but we had generally positive comments about most of the camera work, which indicated a good number of scenes and shots.
Sound- Our sound is funky grime/ dub step music, which most definitely fits in with the gangster crime drama. The sound will be non diagetic.
editing and special effects- The editing we did cut out some length of shots, as they were too long. We also used the fade techniques at then end of every scene, which is where we will put our titles.
mese en scene- Our mese en scene i think drifted away from the conventions of real life gangster films. We used hoodies to convey the image of gangsters, but when filming the football scene, it was last minute filming, so the football scene consisted of characters wearing suits.
